So fresh, so green. 🌱

Serves 2

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup hot water

  • 1/2 teaspoon matcha powder (Here’s a list of some of the best matcha powders to consider)

  • ground ginger to taste

  • 1.5 cups cold water

  • ice

  • 7 tablespoons lime juice (save slices for garnish)

  • 1o mint springs (save 3 sprigs for garnish)

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)

Directions

Sift matcha powder and ginger into a bowl to get rid of any clumps. You can also use a bamboo matcha whisk and go the more traditional route like in this video.

Add 1/2 cup hot water to dissolve the powder.

Fill a small pitcher with ice. Add lime juice, maple syrup, and mint sprigs.

Add remaining water to the matcha powder mix. Combine matcha with the ice, lime juice, maple syrup, and mint. Give it a good stir and garnish with more mint and slices of lime to serve.

The Scoop

Matcha is healthier alternative to coffee (higher grade ceremonial matcha has antioxidants and can improve your energy levels and focus) and it can be so versatile in the kitchen. You can make matcha tea, add it to sweets, add it to a smoothie, top your popcorn with it or even mix it in to your oatmeal or a rice noodle dish.

Since matcha is variety of green tea, there’s naturally occurring caffeine. The amount of caffeine can vary depending on the ratio of matcha to water, but the more you add, the stronger it’ll be. For an energizing midday drink, try my minty matcha limeade with ginger and maple syrup.
